Opportunities for the cleaning industry lie in innovation

Service Management magazine ran an article on innovation in the cleaning sector. Innovation is the only way out of the crisis. Software and apps offer major opportunities.

Workforce Management, Cleaning

The cleaning trade magazine Service Management (July/August 2012) ran an article on innovation in the cleaning sector. The central question was: Does the cleaning sector innovate enough?

Innovation is the only way out of the crisis, the article states. But innovation requires an open mind. Many cleaning companies try to innovate but focus too much on the short term. Too much focus on improving existing concepts can hinder long-term development.

Cleaning companies and innovation?

Innovation should be separate from current projects. Too much thinking at product level prevents real innovation from taking off. True long-term innovation requires a change in the entire company culture. The cleaning industry must shift from a conservative sector to one that is proud of innovations.

Fortunately, some cleaning companies dare to use new techniques and give innovation space. There is still much to gain in terms of efficiency, especially with an ageing workforce.

Software, Apps and cleaning

The big opportunities now lie with companies that adopt new business software and apps in their processes. With a smartphone or tablet app, many processes can be handled much faster. Think of time registration or making important information available to workers.

Despite the crisis, the article remains positive about the future of the sector. Innovative companies that keep up with the times will always do well.
